Ingredients
  

  • 12 cups bread cubes day-old
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 10 oz mushrooms sliced
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 3 stalks celery diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter
  • 2.5 cups chicken broth warmed
  • 2 eggs beaten

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Baking dish

Method
 

  1. Dry bread cubes if needed.
  2. Brown sausage and transfer to bowl.
  3. Sauté vegetables in butter until soft.
  4. Combine bread, sausage, vegetables, herbs, broth, and eggs.
  5. Transfer to baking dish.
  6. Bake covered at 350°F for 30 minutes, uncover and bake until golden.

Notes

Can be made ahead and baked before serving.
