Ingredients
  

Gravy
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk or 2 cups milk + 1 cup half-and-half
  • 4.5 oz dried beef jarred, rinsed and chopped
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.25 tsp cayenne pepper optional
  • 1 dash Worcestershire sauce optional
For Serving
  • 8 slices bread thick-cut, toasted

Method
 

  1. Rinse dried beef under cold water, pat dry, and chop into pieces.
  2. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  3. Whisk in flour and cook for 2-3 minutes to form a roux.
  4. Gradually add milk, whisking constantly until thickened.
  5. Season with black pepper, cayenne, and Worcestershire if using.
  6. Stir in chopped dried beef and simmer 3-5 minutes.
  7. Toast bread slices until golden.
  8. Ladle gravy over toast and serve hot.

Notes

Rinse beef to reduce saltiness. Gravy thickens upon standing; add milk if needed when reheating.
