Method
- Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender. Drain well.
- Mash potatoes and let steam escape for 1–2 minutes.
- Mix in butter, cream, sour cream, garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Fold in cheese if using.
- Transfer to greased baking dish and dot with butter.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25–30 minutes until golden.
Notes
Can be made ahead and baked before serving.
