Method
- Whisk sugar, cornstarch, spices, and salt in a saucepan.
- Whisk in milk and cream until smooth.
- Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until thickened.
- Temper egg yolks with hot mixture, then return to saucepan.
- Cook 2–3 minutes until custard-thick.
- Remove from heat, stir in vanilla.
- Chill covered until set, then serve.
Notes
Serve chilled or slightly warm with whipped cream and nutmeg.
