Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup cornstarch
  • 4 egg yolks large
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp nutmeg ground
  • 0.25 tsp cinnamon ground
  • 1 pinch salt

Method
 

  1. Whisk sugar, cornstarch, spices, and salt in a saucepan.
  2. Whisk in milk and cream until smooth.
  3. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until thickened.
  4. Temper egg yolks with hot mixture, then return to saucepan.
  5. Cook 2–3 minutes until custard-thick.
  6. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla.
  7. Chill covered until set, then serve.

Notes

Serve chilled or slightly warm with whipped cream and nutmeg.
