Ingredients
  

Chicken and Coating
  • 1.5 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup cornstarch
  • salt and black pepper to taste
Honey Sesame Sauce
  • 0.25 cup honey
  • 0.25 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger optional
  • 1-2 tsp red pepper flakes adjust for spice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water for slurry
  • 2-3 tbsp toasted sesame seeds

Equipment

  • Deep skillet or wok

Method
 

  1. Season and coat chicken pieces in egg then flour-cornstarch mixture.
  2. Fry or bake chicken until golden and cooked through.
  3. Simmer sauce ingredients in a saucepan until combined.
  4. Thicken sauce with cornstarch slurry.
  5. Toss cooked chicken in sauce, garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.
  6. Serve hot over rice.

Notes

For extra crunch, double-coat the chicken. Store leftovers separately to maintain crispiness.
