Ingredients
  

French Onion Beef Mixture
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 yellow onions thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1.5 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp flour for thickening
For Serving
  • 6 brioche buns toasted
  • 1.5 cups Gruyere cheese shredded
  • parsley optional, chopped

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Caramelize onions in butter and olive oil until deep golden.
  2. Add garlic and tomato paste; cook 1 minute.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned; drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in Worcestershire, thyme, flour, salt, and pepper.
  5. Pour in beef broth and simmer until thickened.
  6. Toast brioche buns and melt Gruyere on them under broiler.
  7. Assemble sandwiches with beef mixture and additional cheese.

Notes

Caramelization is key—don’t rush the onions for best flavor.
