Thinly sliced beef marinated in a sweet and savory Korean sauce then quickly stir-fried until tender and caramelized.

Ingredients
  

Beef Marinade
  • 1 lb thinly sliced beef ribeye or sirloin
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp ginger grated
  • 0.5 Korean pear grated
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp black pepper
Stir Fry
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 0.5 onion thinly sliced
  • 2 green onions chopped
Garnish
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Large skillet or wok
  • Knife
  • Cutting board

Method
 

  1. Whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, grated pear, rice vinegar, and black pepper.
  2. Add sliced beef and marinate at least 30 minutes.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook marinated beef and onions for 3–5 minutes until caramelized.
  5. Add green onions and cook briefly.
  6. Garnish with sesame seeds and serve hot.

Notes

For spicy bulgogi add 1 teaspoon gochujang to the marinade.
