Ingredients
  

Pizza Base
  • 1 pound pizza dough store-bought or homemade
  • 0.5 pound Italian sausage casings removed
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese whole-milk
  • 0.5 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 0.25 cup hot honey
  • 0.5 cup pizza sauce
  • 0.25 cup fresh basil leaves chopped
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes optional
  • salt and black pepper to taste
Hot Honey (if homemade)
  • 0.25 cup honey
  • 1 tsp chili flakes

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Baking sheet or pizza stone
  • Rolling pin
  • Pizza wheel

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). Place pizza stone in oven if using.
  2. Cook Italian sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. Roll out pizza dough on floured surface to 12-14 inches.
  4. Brush dough with olive oil, spread pizza sauce, and sprinkle half the mozzarella.
  5. Add sausage, dollops of ricotta, remaining mozzarella, and red pepper flakes.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
  7. Drizzle with hot honey and garnish with basil.
  8. Let rest 2-3 minutes, then slice and serve.

Notes

For extra crispiness, use a pizza stone. Adjust heat level with more or less chili in hot honey.
