Ingredients

Garlic Bread Base
  • 1 loaf Italian bread or French baguette, about 1 lb
Garlic Butter Spread
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 6 garlic cloves fresh, minced
  • 0.25 cup Parmesan cheese freshly grated
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded, optional

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Serrated knife
  • Parchment paper or foil

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, Parmesan, parsley, oregano, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  3. Slice the bread loaf in half lengthwise or into thick slices without cutting all the way through.
  4. Spread the garlic butter mixture generously on the cut sides of the bread.
  5. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella on top if using for cheesy garlic bread.
  6. Place on baking sheet. Wrap in foil for softer bread or leave open for crispier results.
  7. Bake 10-15 minutes until golden and bubbly. Broil 1-2 minutes for extra color if desired.
  8. Cool slightly, slice, and serve hot.

Notes

For best results use fresh garlic and room-temperature butter. Can be prepared up to 3 days ahead and refrigerated before baking.
