- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add onion and bell pepper and cook until softened, about 4–5 minutes.
- Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.
- Stir in ketchup, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and water.
- Mix well and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes until thick and saucy.
- Toast buns lightly if desired.
- Spoon filling onto buns and serve warm.
Notes
Toast the buns for the best texture and prevent sogginess. Leftover filling freezes beautifully for quick future meals.
